Rabbi Robert J. Saks
Rabbi Bob Saks is a Conservative-trained Reform rabbi. In 1973 he came to the University of Maryland as Hillel Director. The Reform High Holy Day services he began to lead during those years proved popular not only with students, but with parents, faculty, and community visitors as well. Many of them continued to come to the services he led when he moved them off campus to Kennedy High School in 1992. Many of those folks, and many others, continue to come to the rabbi's popular services.
From 1991-2009 Rabbi Saks served as rabbi of Congregation Bet Mishpachah in Washington D.C., where he is now Rabbi Emeritus. He has been the Associate Rabbi of the Columbia Jewish Congregation since 1991. He serves on the boards of the Jewish Study Center, and Jews United for Justice, where he also serves on the Executive Board. He has been honored by Jews United for Justice for his dedication and commitment to social justice, and by GLAA (Gay Lesbian Activist Alliance) for his work on behalf of the GLBTQ community.
